The new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced new military aid, in particular anti-aircraft, in kyiv on Saturday, assuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of his support "until Ukraine wins" while a first train linked the capital in Kherson after the Russian withdrawal from this city.

“We will stay by your side until Ukraine has won the peace and security it needs and deserves,” said Rishi Sunak, in kyiv alongside the Ukrainian president.

It was the first time since taking office at the end of October that he had visited kyiv.

A surprise visit.

“A significant visit for both countries”

Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed this “meaningful and useful visit for both countries”.

“With friends like you by our side, we have confidence in our victory,” he tweeted afterwards.

Thank you, @RishiSunak.

With friends like you by our side, we are confident in our victory.

The Briton announced new military aid amounting to 50 million pounds (57.4 million euros), including anti-aircraft guns, radars and anti-drone equipment.

He also announced humanitarian aid of 16 million pounds (18.3 million euros).

“In the years to come, we will tell our grandchildren your story, how a proud and sovereign people stood in the face of a terrible attack, how you fought, how you sacrificed, how you won” , declared Rishi Sunak who maintains the United Kingdom's strong support for Ukraine, in line with his predecessor Boris Johnson.

On Friday, kyiv called on the European Union for "additional support" to get through the winter as nearly half of its energy infrastructure has been "disabled" by massive Russian strikes since early October.
